A Guide To Pittsburgh’s Vegan Hotspots
Burgatory
Burgatory’s relaxed industrial-rustic ambiance is rivaled only by its food–the restaurant boasts a number of carefully crafted burgers and milkshakes along with the option to create your own burger with a number of flavorful and unique ingredients, so you really can’t go wrong. The crown jewel from a vegetarian- vegan standpoint however is its impossible burger and dairy free milkshakes. With flavors such as peanut butter and the classics chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, Burgatory is a must eat.
Mad Mex
This Cal Mex treasure, complete with its funky desert inspired decor, is no stranger to vegetarian/ vegan friendly cuisine. Their tofu tacos are a much needed eruption of flavor- the perfect combination of sweet, tangy, and crunchy with the option for spice. Mad Mex also offers a meatless seitan wing and is always ready with dairy less cheese and sour cream to top off any dish of your choosing. Happy eating!
Milkshake Factory
Calling all milkshake lovers, the milkshake factory is the place for you. Their milkshakes are so thick you have to eat them with a spoon, and each one is carefully crafted and topped with whipped cream and either their staple chocolate or another small goodie. For anyone who is vegan or lactose intolerant, its vegan dairy free options are no exception and come in a variety of mouth-watering flavors. The Milkshake Factory really doesn’t disappoint.
Gluuteny
This quaint bakery tucked into the small shops of Murray avenue has its own special spin- it has an array of gluten free, vegan, dairy-free, and soy free options: cupcakes, brownies, cakes, cookies gobs, you name it.
P.S. Their red velvet cupcakes are both adorable and delicious, highly recommended!
Mercurio’s
Mercurio’s, a family owned and operated restaurant has some of the most authentic, wood- fire- pizza- oven cooked pizza you can find in Pittsburgh. It’s beautiful collection años carefully crafted tomato pies are paired with a wonderland of gelatos, each rich, creamy, and uniquely Mercurio’s. One of their offered pizzas is the margarita which, while being vegan and therefore not topped with cheese, retains all the best flavors of your favorite pizza and does not sacrifice taste for simplicity.
