All the seniors at Allderdice liked skip day a lot…

But the Grinch, who lived just west of Dice, Did NOT!

The Grinch hated senior skip day! Everything about it!

Now please don’t ask why, because she won’t even admit it.

It could be that her head wasn’t screwed on just right.

It could be, perhaps, that her skirts were too tight.

But I think the most likely reason of all,

May have been that her heart was two sizes too small.

Whatever reason, her heart or her skirt,

She stood there days before skip day, with tons of hurt

And as the sun set, she knew every kid down in Squirrel Hill,

Was busy now, preparing to sleep nice and still

“They’re posting about it on instagram!” she snarled with a sneer,

“It’s almost Senior Skip day! It’s practically here!”

Then she growled, with her Grinch fingers nervously drumming,

“I MUST find some way to stop skip day from coming!”

For soon she knew, the whole upper class,

They would sleep in late. They would miss her class!

The makeup work! The makeup work! The makeup work!

That’s one thing she hated! Letting kids do makeup work.

MAKE UP WORK! MAKE UP WORK! MAKE UP WORK!

Then the seniors, dumb and smart, would go out and have fun. And they’d have FUN! 

FUN! FUN! FUN!

They would have fun at home and not in the east.

Which was something the Grinch couldn’t stand at the least!

And THEN they’d do something she liked least of all!

Every senior down in Squirrel Hill, smart, dumb, and tall

Would get an excused absence, all through a call.

Then the Grinch said, something must be done once and for all! 

THE GRINCH GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!

“I know just what to do!” The Grinch laughed in her throat.

And she made a quick announcement, and pressed post

And she chuckled, “What a great Grinchy announcement!”

“With these guidelines about skip day, I am as Grinchy as you get! Hoo-ray!”

“All I need is an assistant teacher…” The Grinch looked around.

So she called Max, who was eager to be found

Then the Grinch said, “Ready?” and the bell rang

“This is stop number one.” the Grinch groaned,

And she stood outside, empty bucket in hand, ready to collect kids phones 

Then she closed the door and stood in front of the smart screen. 

The Grinch opened the announcement for all the students to read

Then she slithered and slunk, with a smile most unpleasant,

Around the whole room, and took everyones cheer,

With an awful Grinchy sneer

“And NOW!” grinned the Grinch, “Excused absences will not save you!”

And the Grinch wiped a smile off of every students face,

But when she heard a small whimper 

She turned around fast, and saw a senior quiver.

The student stared at the Grinch and said, “Teacher, why,”

“Why are you taking our senior skip day, why?”

But, you know, that old Grinch was so smart and so slick,

She thought up a lie, and she thought it up quick!

“Why, it’s against the school rules! I couldn’t tell you the reason why.”

And when these students left classroom the evil grinch cheered,

“No more senior skip days for years and years!”

The Grinch drove to school the next day and exclaimed,

“They’re just waking up! I know what they’ll do!”

“Their mouths will hang open for a minute or two,

Then the seniors will cry out BooHoo!

For no skip day will be allowed! Woohoo!”

“That’s a noise,” grinned the Grinch, “That I simply MUST hear!”

So she paused. And the Grinch put her hand to her ear.

And she did hear a sound rising over the halls.

It started low. Then it started to grow. 

But the sound wasn’t sad! Why, this sound sounded hopeful!

She stared down the hallway! The Grinch popped her eyes! 

Then she shook! What she saw was a shocking surprise!

Every senior at dice, the smart and the dumb, 

Was making plans for another senior skip day, craziest of all!

And the Grinch, with her grinch-feet in ballet flat shoes,

Stood puzzling and puzzling, “How could this be true?”

And she puzzled for three time slots, till her puzzler was sore.

Then the Grinch thought of something she hadn’t thought of before!

“Maybe Senior Skip Day” she thought, “let kids enjoy a day of fun that they do not have anymore!”

“Maybe a skip day perhaps… is what I need most of all!”

And what happened then? Well… in time slot four they say,

That the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day!

She took down the schoology post, to the children’s delight!

And she, SHE HERSELF! Took a skip day, that was quite nice.
